The extended and improper use of antibiotics has spurred a dramatic increase in bacteria that are not affected by the drugs, generating a pressing public health crisis. The development of antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), a promising and rapidly advancing antibacterial approach, is essential in preventing drug-resistant microbes from emerging. Although the overall research on stalking has grown, dedicated studies exploring the experiences and harms faced by victims of acquaintance stalking are less prevalent. This research, using online surveys, analyzed differences in stalking behaviors (jealousy, control, and sexual harassment) and harm (resource losses, social identity perceptions, sexual autonomy, sexual difficulties, safety efficacy) in 193 women stalked by acquaintances who had been sexually assaulted and 144 who had not. The research indicated that individuals experiencing acquaintance stalking frequently encountered all three types of sexual harassment—verbal, unwanted advances, and coercion. This study further revealed that these victims experienced negative social identity perceptions, encompassing their self-image and perceived partner suitability. More women subjected to sexual assault, unlike those who were not, experienced threats, jealous and controlling behaviors, extreme physical harm, fear associated with stalking, sexual harassment, negative social perceptions, and a decreased level of sexual self-determination. Statistical analysis of multivariate data demonstrated that sexual assault, alongside higher levels of unwanted sexual attention, escalating sexual coercion, reduced safety efficacy, and negative perceptions of social identity were associated with sexual difficulties; in contrast, sexual assault combined with elevated safety efficacy, reduced resource loss, and fewer negative social identity perceptions corresponded with increased sexual autonomy. Myths encompass widely accepted beliefs, often lacking factual basis and based on inaccurate interpretations of ideas and concepts, or overgeneralizations. The investigation of myths related to dating violence (DV) has, until now, received minimal scrutiny, possibly due to the lack of a validated measurement tool. Following this, we developed a standardized instrument for evaluating misconceptions about domestic violence, and meticulously analyzed its psychometric properties. Three studies, employing both cross-sectional and longitudinal datasets, underly the instrument's design. Study 1's factor analysis of explanatory variables, using a sample of 259 emerging adults, mostly college students, identified a substantial three-factor structure. In Study 2, via confirmatory factor analysis, the factor structure's validity was confirmed using a separate group of 330 emerging adults, mainly college students. Our findings additionally included evidence supporting concurrent validity. Our newly developed scale displayed predictive validity among emerging adults, both dating and non-dating, particularly college students, in longitudinal data analysis from Study 3. The Dating Violence Myths scale, as evidenced by three studies, proves a promising, standardized, and innovative tool for measuring beliefs about dating violence. Emerging adults exhibit harmful psychological attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors toward domestic violence, and both cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence support the need to debunk these myths to address this issue.
Childhood adversity, encompassing economic hardship and family violence, particularly prevalent among the offspring of fathers who are conscripted into military service, poses a substantial risk for poor health in later life. In the context of World War II, the connection between paternal military service, paternal mortality, and self-assessed health status among older Japanese adults was explored. Data were collected in 2016 from a population-based cohort of functionally independent individuals aged 65 or more, encompassing 39 municipalities throughout Japan. Information about PMC and SRH was derived from responses to a self-administered questionnaire. A study involving 20286 participants utilized multivariate logistic regression to examine the correlation between poor health and the presence of both PMC and PWD. To investigate whether childhood economic hardship and family violence mediated the association, a causal mediation analysis was undertaken. Regarding PMC reports amongst the participants, 197% reported experiencing it, including 33% who identify as PWD. Older individuals with PMC in the age- and sex-adjusted model exhibited a higher chance of poor health (odds ratio [OR] 1.16, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.06–1.28), while those with PWD showed no significant association with poor health outcomes (odds ratio [OR] 0.96, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.77–1.20). Childhood family violence exposure served as a mediator between PMC and poor health, explaining 69% of the connection between the two variables. Economic hardship proved to be non-mediating in the established association. PMC individuals demonstrated a greater likelihood of poor health in later life than PWD, a consequence partially explained by the experience of family violence in childhood. Traditional Chinese medicine Solanum lyratum Thunb, despite its clinical success in tumor management, reveals diminished potency in its isolated chemical components or fractions. The herb provided the compounds solavetivone (SO), tigogenin (TI), and friedelin (FR), allowing us to investigate the possible synergistic or antagonistic effects amongst them in the extract. This research explored the anti-tumor properties of these three monomer compounds, used individually or in combination with the anti-inflammatory agent DRG. Neither SO nor FR nor TI alone prevented the growth of A549 and HepG2 cells, yet their collaborative action achieved a 40% inhibition rate. Anti-inflammatory assays performed in a laboratory setting indicated that DRG exhibited a more pronounced anti-inflammatory response than TS at the same concentration. Concomitantly, combining DRG with SO, FR, or TI suppressed DRG's anti-tumor activity. This study represents the first instance of documenting both the collaborative and opposing effects of various compounds found in a single herbal source.
